Chanel Make Over - Make Up Application Reviews

Many leading cosmetic brands offer make up application as a standard service, however I'd always been a bit wary of trying this service before a party or night out in case I didn't like how it looked. I don't wear a lot of make up and prefer a very natural look, so allowing someone else to apply my make up was quite a daunting prospect.

I was attending a wedding recently and decided to give it a try, with a view that I'd leave enough time to reapply this myself if I didn't like how it looked. There are many concessions that offer this service, including Mac, Bobbi Brown and Chanel, and I know lots of people who attended all of the above and loved the results.

There is generally a charge for the service, however this is usually redeemable against products meaning that, in effect, you aren't really paying for the application. I was due to purchase some Soleil Tan De Chanel, so I decided to book a make up application with Chanel, at a cost £25, which could be used to purchase this product.

I attended the concession, which was based in John Lewis, and spent some time discussing my preferences with the make up artist. My normal make up routine consists of a bronzer, eyebrow pencil, mascara and maybe some eyeliner if I'm feeling adventurous. I explained this to the make up artist who seemed to understand the look I was after.

I won't bore you with all of the details, but I've added an overview of the application process, below (this will of course be different depending on each individual's preferences):

    Face
Primers and base products were added to ensure my skin was thoroughly moisturised and ready for the application.
A light foundation was then applied, followed by some bronzer, blusher and a highlighting serum.

    Eyes
A cream was applied to take away any dark patches around my eyes.
A gold eyeshadow was blended lightly across my eyes; this was also added under my eyes to brighten them up.
Mascara was then applied (although I did go over this myself later to thicken it up slightly).
I did also ask the make up artist to apply some black eyeliner to bring my eyes out further, which she was more than happy to do.

    Lips
A light lipstick that looked like a gloss was applied.

I was extremely happy with how it looked and I must admit I could notice a difference. It wasn't too thick and complemented my skin tone perfectly. Here's a picture of the make up ten hours later - it stayed on all day and night which was definitely a plus (and yes, I am wearing a jester hat on the image - it was the only close up image of my face that I could find!).

All in all, I'd recommend this service to anyone. The appointment took around an hour and, as I mentioned previously, the deposit can be redeemed against any products. I'm happy to answer any questions or provide any information you may need. Simply comment below or drop me an .

The MAC ones are great but I'd always advise you go in store and ask the person whose make-up you most admire to do it/ book you in. I had one awful one where I booked over the phone and the woman who did it was (lovely but) bright orange and despite telling her I wanted it to be very light coverage, I too looked like I'd been painted with Ron-Seal by the end!
