Popolo Newcastle Celebrates Ten Years - Events in Newcastle

One of my favourite bars in Newcastle is Popolo. Located on Pilgrim Street, the bar boasts a fantastic atmosphere and an extensive cocktail menu. Popolo celebrates its tenth birthday this week and is hosting a series of events to mark the occasion. I'm definitely planning a few trips and would recommend it if you're looking for a good place to visit this week.

Their events are:

Wednesday 24th October
Live music from DJ Smoove and Turrell, in addition to Mojito Wednesday where all Mojito cocktails are just £3.95.

Thursday 25th October
Big Thursday Tiki night, where all Tiki cocktails are just £3.95.

Friday 26th October
DJ medley from all of Popolo's favourite DJs from the past ten years.

Saturday 27th October
London funk DJ Mike Bandoni will be playing throughout the night.

Sunday 28th October
Popolo's tenth birthday party featuring live music from local band The Din, and a draw for a trip to Amsterdam.

Additionally, Popolo run a happy hour daily between 5pm-7pm, where you can take advantage of offers such as £1 off selected beers, selected cocktails for £3.95 and a bottle of wine for just £8.95. They also run a series of food offers including two courses and a cocktail for just £15 - you can't go wrong! Full information can be found by clicking here.

I've sampled many of their cocktails but I'm always keen for recommendations so please feel free to comment and share your Popolo favourites below!

Stretching Leather Shoes

I bought a fab pair of Chiristian Louboutin Pigalle shoes at the beginning of the year and absolutely love them, however the first few months of wearing them left my feet in agony!

When I originally bought them the shop assistant advised that generally you go half a size smaller when buying a pair of Louboutins as the leather will always give. I tried on a size 37 (my normal size) and they felt perfect, however I could see that they would slip off if they stretched, so I decided to purchase a 36.5. I wore them several times but would end up desperate to take them off after a few hours!

I was in a store which sold Louboutins recently and explained my problem to the assistant who said he had the perfect solution - I wanted to share this with you as it's worked a treat and I'm sure it will work with any leather shoes that need to adjust to your feet!

Here it goes:

Boil a kettle and hold the shoes over the steam once this starts to get to boiling point.
Hold the shoes there for a few minutes until the steam opens the pores of the leather.
Once they feel hot and have absorbed the steam, put them on and wear them until they dry (be careful not to burn yourself though).

This may need done a couple of times, and you will have to still brave wearing them outside, but I found within a few days this had done the trick. They are now one of the most comfortable pairs I own.

I hope it's helpful and would be keen to hear any other tips you may have, so please leave a comment below!
